Frontline Fire & Rescue raises funds for breast cancer research at handover of WA’s first Pink Scania Fire Appliance

Frontline Fire & Rescue has marked the official handover of WA’s first Pink Scania Fire Appliance to Hancock Iron Ore by hosting Pink for a Purpose, a fundraising event in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).

Held at Frontline Fire & Rescue’s Commissioning and Maintenance Workshop in Malaga, Frontline’s fundraiser brought together employees, suppliers, customers and supporters. Team members volunteered to shave their heads or spray their hair pink as part of the Head Shave and Pink Hair Challenge.

Frontline Fire & Rescue raised $30,822 through the event, with funds raised supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s world-class breast cancer research and its vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

Every day, 56 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer and nine Australians lose their lives to the disease. For many at Frontline Fire & Rescue, the cause is deeply personal, with breast cancer having touched the lives of employees, families, friends and colleagues.

“While we’re incredibly proud to deliver this purpose-built emergency response vehicle, its handover also gave our team an opportunity to support a cause that has touched many of our employees, families and friends,” said James Flurry, Business Manager, Frontline Fire & Rescue.

Designed and manufactured in Western Australia, the purpose-built appliance features Frontline Fire & Rescue’s new Urban Tanker design and latest features and will strengthen emergency response capability across Hancock Iron Ore’s mining operations.

Its distinctive pink finish continues Hancock Iron Ore’s highly visible support for breast cancer research and patient care, adding to the company’s world-leading use of pink mining equipment across its operations including haul trucks, locomotives, crushers and processing plants/infrastructure.

The event also featured a message from NBCF and guest speaker Maria Dunn, who spoke about her personal breast cancer journey. The Head Shave and Pink Hair Challenge was led by four-time World Hairdressing Champion Antonio Sorgiovanni of Sorge’s House for Hair.

Frontline Fire & Rescue thanks Hancock Iron Ore for entrusting the team with the design and build of the appliance and for joining the official handover; NBCF and Maria Dunn, together with Antonio Sorgiovanni and his team, for their support; and the employees, suppliers, customers and community members whose participation and generosity made the Pink for a Purpose fundraiser a success.
